Complex Endovascular Surgery Live: A New Training Format from the “Medical Evolution Association”

Modern medicine is actively shifting toward practice-oriented training, and this very principle underpins the educational activities of the “Medical Evolution Association." One of the formats that brings training closest to real clinical practice is Live Surgery—the real-time broadcasting of surgical interventions. It allows physicians to observe each step of the operation, interact directly with experts, analyze complex clinical decisions in detail, and earn CPD points.

Why the “Medical Evolution Association” is Developing the Live Surgery Format

Traditional lectures are giving way to digital tools. Today’s specialist wants to see a technique, not just hear about it. Live Surgery broadcasts help bridge the gap between theory and practice. No textbook can replace the opportunity to observe an expert. This develops spatial clinical thinking and builds an understanding of process biomechanics, which is far more effective than rote learning.

Such events offer real-world experience, the opportunity to communicate with top speakers in real time, skills for daily work, and the CPD points required for certification. The “Medical Evolution Association” organizes events that closely reflect real clinical practice. A prime example is our live broadcasts from the operating room dedicated to real-time endovascular surgical interventions.

What is Endovascular Surgery

It is one of the youngest and most promising fields of modern medicine, fundamentally changing treatment protocols for heart attacks, strokes, complex CHIP procedures, and critical ischemia. Since the 2000s, it has rapidly expanded in Ukraine and is now the “gold standard” of surgical care. We chose this direction for our programs to help as many colleagues as possible learn about new approaches in endovascular surgery, engage with experts in this field, and scale advanced minimally invasive techniques in their clinics.

What Role Does an Endovascular Surgeon Play

Today, the interventionist is a key figure in the multidisciplinary Heart Team. Our goal is to show real tactics and “operating room psychology” rather than just dry algorithms. The Live Surgery format provides a unique opportunity to virtually look over an expert’s shoulder and absorb their experience in real time: to see how the operator makes decisions “here and now,” adapts strategies, and manages risks at every stage of the intervention.

Modern Minimally Invasive Technologies at the Core of Interventional Cardiology and Interventional Radiology

The development of this field depends entirely on technological progress: atherectomy systems, microcatheters, drug-coated balloons, and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) tools have become the surgeon’s new “eyes” and capabilities. We aim to teach our colleagues to confidently use this innovative arsenal. This will enable successful operations even on the most challenging comorbid patients who were previously denied open surgeries.

Complex Endovascular Surgery Live as a Training Tool

The Live Surgery format is recognized by many foreign medical educational institutions as the best format for online physician training. Cameras capture every movement, while angiographic data is streamed synchronously on the screen. A distinct value lies in the continuous dialogue between the operating surgeon, the online audience, and invited experts. Speakers explain their choice of guidewires and the specific nuances of performing the intervention.

After the operation, a clinical case review with a Q&A session is held, allowing physicians to learn directly during the intervention. Observing the operation live allows physicians to absorb experience directly while complex interventions are being performed.

Why Choose the “Medical Evolution Association”

Our Association brings together the best specialists in Ukrainian medicine. Our experts include recognized authorities in endovascular interventions, including Professor S. Furkalo, MD, PhD; A. Basatskyi, MD, PhD; D. Uzun; T. Petrovskyi; and Yu. Vahis. This is why every masterclass—a live broadcast from the operating room featuring physicians—gathers over 700 doctors looking to improve their practical skills.

For instance, at a recent event, the broadcast was carried out simultaneously from two operating rooms with step-by-step switching between clinical cases. Four different interventions were presented and performed by Professor Serhiy Furkalo and his colleague, Yuriy Vahis: a CHIP procedure (complex higher-risk coronary intervention), endovascular revascularization of the lower-extremity arteries in critical ischemia, a complex coronary intervention, and a complex BTK (below-the-knee) intervention. Online discussions were held with invited experts, and audience questions were answered, followed by testing and issuance of certificates with CPD points.

Why Choose the “Medical Evolution Association”

The Future of Professional Medical Education in Ukraine

Remote formats and Live Surgery are the new standard of medical education, erasing boundaries and proving highly relevant today. The “Medical Evolution Association” turns learning into a practical process: broadcasts enable participants to absorb experience from top specialists by witnessing the entire intervention firsthand. Furthermore, by attending the educational events of the “Medical Evolution Association,” you participate in testing, and points are added to your portfolio.

We combine science with real practice to help doctors confidently handle the most complex clinical tasks. This is our contribution to developing a new generation of professionals who make quality healthcare accessible to every patient in Ukraine.

Therefore, we invite you to join the Association’s community! We offer practical knowledge to physician-attendees and invite leading specialists to serve as speakers, sharing their expertise live and developing Ukrainian medicine together.
